IMPORTANT:
When supplying your own graphics files for printing, or your own
pre-printed
inserts and traycards, the following specification MUST be met. Failure
to do so will result in delays in production and additional charges.
Please
read the following guidelines carefully before proceeding.

Insert & Traycard Specifications

- Keep all
pertinent information
a minimum of 2mm from all trim and perf lines.
- We don't
recommend using type
smaller than 8 points when reversing out of a color field.
- Extend artwork
at least 4mm
beyond trim lines for bleeds.
- When
submitting negative films,
artwork must be submitted as 150 lpi Separated Negative Films, Emulsion
Down, Right Reading.
- Artwork NOT
submitted as plate-ready
will incur an additional charge to get the artwork into that form.
- Digital
graphics files must
be submitted as CMYK (not RGB).
- Include all
fonts and linked
graphics with any digital layouts supplied.
- A Colorkey or
Matchprint must
accompany composite negatives (not necessary for B/W art).
- Cut lines,
score lines, and
registration marks must appear on all film layers.
- All folder
panels of a particular
side must appear together as they are expected to be printed (your work
should appear as "printer's spreads" not "reader's spreads"). Booklet
page
film must appear as a 2-page printer spread-for example: pages 2 and 7
(of an 8-page booklet) would appear together with score marks dividing
them.
- If traycards
are supplied pre-printed,
the spines must be perforated. If booklets are supplied, staples on the
booklet must be placed accurately on the fold and cannot protrude above
or below that fold.
- Booklets
cannot exceed 1.8mm
thick.

Art Specifications

Outer
edge of the physical disc = 120mm
Outer
limit of printable area = 116mm
Outer
edge of mirror band = 45.5 mm
Inner
edge of mirror band = 38mm
Stacking
ring (w/3.25 pts.) = 35mm
Inner
limit of printable area = 20mm
Actual
hole of physical disc = 15mm |
- There must be,
at least, a corresponding
center registration mark appearing on each film layer of a particular
project.
- Do not include
printable lines
representing the outer edge or inner edge (the hole) of the disc. Only
leave elements you want printed.
- The center
hole area (20mm in
diameter) must be knocked out, therefore meaning, no image can appear
(or
bleed) inward, beyond this 20mm circle. The actual hole opening is 15mm.
- If art must
extend inward, somewhere
beyond the mirror band, a "stacking ring" must be knocked out on all
film
seps. This stacking ring exists as a 35mm circle with a line thickness
of 3.25 points.
- No art can
bleed, outward, beyond
a 116mm diameter circle (the outer physical edge of a disc is 120mm).
- All halftones
are to be screened
at 120 lpi.
- Trapping
should be stipulated
at 0.35 points.
- Be absolutely
sure that all
placed image files, all screen fonts, and all printer fonts are
included
on your disk along with your application files.
- Include
composite layer proofs
of all files needing output.
- Include a
laser print of the
complete contents list of your submitted disk.
- Be sure you've
followed all
measurement and placement specifications as well as all instructions as
to correct knockouts and masks as it applies to center hole, stacking
ring,
and edge printing limit.
- Try to avoid
using any typeface
smaller than 6 points.
- A serif font,
like Times or
Garamond, is difficult to print if less than 7 points. A less delicate
font like Helvetica or Univers works better at smaller point sizes.
- Any type
reversing out of a
color should not be less than 7 points.
- Type reversing
out of the four
process colors should not be smaller than 8 points.
- If you are
building type out
of the four process colors, go no smaller than 10 points.
- A white base
coat may be printed
first on Full-Color Process jobs. If a proof is not submitted with the
job, we can produce one at an additional charge. To proceed without a
color
matching proof, we would require prior approval.
- If submitting
films: we need
Film Positives, Emulsion Side Up, and Right-Reading. If you send us
something
other than this configuration, you will incur an additional charge and
it will delay production of your disc.
- We need one
film positive for
each Pantone color or Process color being printed.
- Most colors
will change when
printed over another so, it is often necessary for artwork and type to
have their "under color" knocked out before laying in your trapped
artwork
or type. Colors will be more accurate when printed over a base-coat of
white. Black, however, can overprint without the need for a knockout.
- Although we
have a great deal
of experience resulting in high quality projects, screen printing is
not
as precise as fine printing on paper-tonal ranges simply aren't as wide
nor as subtle. Understand that screen percentages less than 20% may not
show up at all. Screen tints over 85% may likely print as a solid
color.
You should design your projects accordingly.
